Blood Agar Base No. 2, Oxoid Preparation:
Suspend 40g in 1 litre of distilled water. Bring to the boil to dissolve completely. Sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50°C and add 7% sterile blood.
Mix with gentle rotation and pour into sterile dishes or other containers.
Storage conditions and Shelf life
Store the dehydrated medium at 10-30°C and use before the expiry date on the label.
Store the prepared plates of medium at 2-8°C.
Precautions
Brucella cultures are highly infective and must be handled under properly protected conditions. Incubate in 5-10% carbon dioxide atmosphere for 24-48 hours.

Description
Histone H3 is one of the five main histone proteins involved in the structure of chromatin in eukaryotic cells. Featuring a main globular domain and a long N-terminal tail, H3 is involved with the structure of the nucleosomes of the ‘beads on a string’ structure. The N-terminal tail of histone H3 protrudes from the globular nucleosome core and can undergo several different types of epigenetic modifications that influence cellular processes. These modifications include the covalent attachment of methyl or acetyl groups to lysine and arginine amino acids and the phosphorylation of serine or threonine. Acetylation of histone H3 occurs at several different lysine positions in the histone tail and is performed by a family of enzymes known as Histone Acetyl Transferases (HATs). Acetylation of lysine14 is commonly seen in genes that are being actively transcribed into RNA. Research focus area: Epigenetics.

Description
The Giemsa’s Azure Eosin Methylene Blue solution can be used for the staining of blood and bone marrow smears, paraffin sections and clinical-cytological specimens. Giemsa staining is one of the standard procedures in histology, demonstrating various cells with their morphological features better than with H&E stain. The Giemsa stain can also be used to detect Helicobacter pylori in gastric tissue biopsies. The specimen material will show cell nuclei stained in various shades of blue, while other structures will appear in various red types. It is an IVD product and CE registered.

Campylobacter Agar (Karmali), Oxoid Preparation:
Add 21.5g of Campylobacter Agar Base (Karmali) to 500ml of distilled water and bring to the boil to dissolve. Sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 50°C. Aseptically add 1 vial of Campylobacter Selective Supplement (Karmali) SR0167 or Modified Karmali Selective Supplement SR0205, reconstituted as directed.. Mix well and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
Storage conditions and Shelf life
Campylobacter Agar Base (Karmali) should be stored tightly capped in the original container in a cool, dry place away from bright light. When stored at 10-30°C the medium will remain stable until the expiry date printed on the label.

Campylobacter Selective Supplement (Karmali) SR0167 contains cycloheximide which is toxic.
