Suspend 37.0g of VRE Broth Base in 1 litre of distilled water. Warm to dissolve completely, sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes and cool to 50°C. Supplement the medium as shown in the table below. Then mix well and distribute into final sterile containers.

DO NOT AUTOCLAVE. DO NOT HOLD AT BOILING TEMPERATURE. Cool to 50°C, mix well and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
Brilliance Salmonella Agar, Oxoid Preparation:
Suspend 27g of Brilliance Salmonella Agar Base in 500ml of distilled water. Add the contents of 1 vial of Salmonella Selective Supplement, resuspended as directed. Mix well and sterilise by bringing to the boil with frequent agitation. Cool to around 50ºC, mix well and pour into sterile Petri dishes.
NOTE: It is critical that the selective supplement is added prior to heating. When preparing volumes greater than 1 litre contact Oxoid Technical Support for directions.
Storage conditions and Shelf life
Salmonella Selective Supplement should be stored in the dark at 2-8ºC. When stored as directed, the un-opened products will remain stable until the expiry date printed on the packaging.

General Description
Granular lithium is a form of lithium metal that has been ground into small granules. Lithium is a soft, silver-white metal that is highly reactive and flammable. Lithium has a low density of 0.534 g/cm3, which makes it one of the lightest metals. Like the other alkali metals, lithium has a low melting point (180 °C) and is a good conductor of electricity and heat. Granular lithium is highly reactive and behaves as a strong reducing agent. It must be handled with caution due to its potential to ignite or explode. Lithium reacts readily with water and oxygen to form lithium hydroxide and lithium oxide, respectively, and even reacts with nitrogen gas at room temperature, forming lithium nitride. Muller-Kauffmann Tetrathionate-Novobiocin Broth (MkTTn), Oxoid Preparation:
Suspend 89.5g of MKTTn in 1 litre of distilled water, mix well and bring to the boil. Cool to below 45°C. Immediately before use add 20ml of iodine-iodide solution prepared by dissolving 25g of potassium iodide in 10ml of water, adding 20g of iodine and then diluting to 100ml with sterile water. Also add the contents of four vials of Oxoid Novobiocin Selective Supplement SR0181 reconstituted as directed. Mix well and aseptically dispense into sterile containers.
Storage conditions and Shelf life
Store the dehydrated medium at 10-30°C and use before the expiry date on the label.
Store the prepared media at room temperature. The prepared medium in its final form containing iodine/iodide solution + Novobiocin Selective Supplement SR0181 should be used immediately.
