Oxoid Heart Infusion Broth is a highly nutritious liquid medium recommended for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms.

Heart Infusion Broth, Oxoid Composition

Heart Infusion Broth, Oxoid Preparation:
Dissolve 37g in 1 litre of distilled water. Mix well and distribute into final containers. Sterilise by autoclaving at 121ºC for 15 minutes.

Storage conditions and Shelf life
The dehydrated medium should be stored at 10-30°C and used before the expiry date on the label.
Store the prepared medium in the dark below 20°C.

Precautions
Heart Infusion Broth should only be used for in vitro diagnostic purposes.

Isolate and differentiate Shigella and Salmonella spp. from enteric pathological specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Hektoen Enteric Agar (Dehydrated). Hektoen Enteric Agar was developed by King and Metzger. When compared to other selective media this medium gives higher yield of Salmonella and Shigella, while inhibiting accompanying Gram-positive and other microorganisms.

Hektoen Enteric Agar, Oxoid Composition

Hektoen Enteric Agar, Oxoid Preparation:
Suspend 76g of the medium in 1 litre of distilled water and soak for 10 minutes. Heat gently and allow to boil for a few seconds to dissolve the agar. DO NOT AUTOCLAVE. Cool to 50°C and pour plates.

Store the dehydrated medium at 10-30°C and use before the expiry date on the label.
Store the prepared plates at 2-8°C.

Precautions
Do not overheat the medium or hold it molten for long periods. Proteus species may resemble salmonellae or shigellae.
Further testing must be carried out to confirm the presumptive identification of organisms isolated on this medium.

Oxoid Helicobacter Pylori Selective Supplement (Dent) is for the isolaton of Helicobacter pylori from clinical specimens.

• Each vial supplements 500mL of medium

Helicobacter Pylori Selective Supplement (Dent), Oxoid Composition

Helicobacter Pylori Selective Medium, Oxoid Preparation:
Reconstitute one vial as directed, aseptically add the contents to 500 ml of Columbia Blood Agar Base cooled to approximately 50°C. Add 35 ml of Laked Horse Blood SR0048 and mix well before pouring into sterile Petri dishes.

Store the prepared medium at 2-8°C.

Oxoid Hemoglobin Powder Soluble is a specially prepared hemoglobin for use in culture media.

• Oxoid Hoyle Medium Base is used for isolation and differentiation of Corynebacterium diphtheriae Types.
• Requires addition of Potassium Tellurite 3.5%, Part No. SR0030J

Hoyle Medium Base, Oxoid Composition

Hoyle Medium, Oxoid Preparation:
Suspend 40g in 1 litre of distilled water and bring to the boil to dissolve completely. Sterilise by autoclaving at 121°C for 15 minutes. Cool to 55°C and add 50ml of Laked Horse Blood SR0048 and 10ml of 3.5% Potassium Tellurite solution SR0030, mix, and pour plates.

Store the dehydrated medium at 10-30°C and use before the expiry date on the label.
Store the prepared plates at 2-8°C.

Precautions
It should be noted that not all corynebacteria produce the typical colonies described above – so in all cases it is advisable to use Hoyle medium in conjunction with the additional media and tests mentioned above.
